Online 'smart meter' launched

Category: Energy Assessors (16.12.2008)

Domestic energy assessors
may want to recommend an online 'Smart Meter' to consumers eager to keep their energy consumption and bills low.

A new tool from UKPower.co.uk has been launched which allows users to establish the cost of energy they have used over a period of time.

Users of the new website simply enter two meter readings for either gas or electricity and the online tool will tell them how much it sill cost them.

Graham Self, Director at UKPower.co.uk said: "This will help consumers to budget more effectively as they will be able to monitor energy costs rather than waiting for bills to come through the door.

"With current concerns being raised about Direct Debit increases by the energy suppliers, this tool also gives consumers the information to challenge suppliers as they can track costs for their specific usage."

The government has legislated for all homes to have actual smart meter devices installed by 2020.

Smart meters would give homeowners real-time readouts of energy consumption and cost, allowing them to see the benefits of efficiency measures such as insulation and double glazing.
