A co-operative that developed a brownfield site with well
insulated homes has been shortlisted for an housing award.
Tenants-First, an Aberdeen housing co-operative transformed the site of a former fish factory into a project of 45 family homes and eight sheltered houses at Roanheads at Peterhead.
It has been nominated for the award for best brownfield or recycled building project for converting the site which other developers refused on account of ground contamination.
Following six months of demolition and clean up Tenants First set about building the factory built homes.
Chief executive Sandy Murray told 24dash: "The panels arrived in Peterhead with i
nsulation, doors and windows already intact. High levels of insulation coupled with reduced energy bills, meaning the development is also very environmentally friendly."
Homes which don't have the advantage of already installed loft
insulation or
cavity wall insulation can save on their energy bill by fitting their homes with them.
